Follower counts alone tell a hiring manager little, since they depend heavily on category and budget. Engagement rate, follower growth over a stated period, and any number that ties social back to the business (traffic, leads, bookings, attributed revenue) show that you understand social as a channel with a job to do, not just a content calendar to fill.
Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite and Later each handle scheduling and reporting differently, and naming the specific ones you have used signals real fluency rather than general familiarity. The same goes for editing tools (CapCut, Adobe Premiere) and paid platforms (Meta Ads Manager, TikTok Ads Manager); a hiring manager assembling a specific tech stack wants to see it named, not implied.
Some social roles are almost entirely hands-on content production; others are strategy and team management with little personal camera time. State plainly which formats you personally shoot, edit or write versus which you brief out or manage, since a hiring manager filling a creator-heavy role and one filling a strategy-heavy role are looking for very different resumes.
A bullet that just names five platforms (“managed Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X and Pinterest”) tells a hiring manager nothing about whether any of it worked. Pick the platforms where you actually drove results, attach a real number to each, and leave minor or inactive platforms out rather than padding the list.
Yes, if the account still reflects your work and is public. A direct link to a brand’s Instagram or TikTok lets a hiring manager see the actual content and growth for themselves, which is more convincing than any bullet point. If you no longer manage the account and the content has changed significantly since you left, a portfolio or case study is a safer alternative.
Pair the creative work with whatever performance data is available, even simple view or engagement numbers on specific posts, rather than describing the content alone. If a specific post or campaign performed unusually well, name the number; that single data point does more work than a paragraph describing your creative process.
List it the same way as an employer, with a title like “Freelance Social Media Manager,” the range of dates, and the clients or brands you can name, grouped under one entry if there were several short engagements. Lead with your strongest, most verifiable results rather than trying to list every client individually.
Upload what you have. We rewrite it against the standards our writers built over 80,000 resumes, and you read the whole thing before deciding anything.
