survives the software

No sidebars, no photos, no skills drawn as dots — because those are exactly what turns a resume into gibberish on the way into an applicant tracking system. These differ in typography and emphasis, never in whether they parse.

Why none of these has a sidebar

The two-column template with a photo and a row of skill dots is the one most builders lead with, and it is the worst possible thing to hand to a parser. The columns get read straight across, so the sidebar lands in the middle of your job history. The photo carries no readable text at all. Four dots out of five means nothing once the graphic is stripped — is that fluent, or not?

So we don't sell one. What varies here is type, weight, alignment, spacing and emphasis — the things a person notices — while the structure underneath stays the one that survives.

Applying for a US federal job?

A federal resume is a different document, not a different design. It runs to several pages, it avoids anything decorative, and it is read against one specific announcement. This layout gives you the right shape.

We ask for the federal-only parts. Full mailing address, citizenship, veterans' preference, the announcement you're applying to, and for each job the hours per week, employer address, pay plan, series and grade, salary and supervisor. A checklist in the editor shows what's still blank and separates what USAJOBS requires of everyone from what only some announcements ask for.

None of it is written by our AI, and it can't be. A clearance, a preference claim or a supervisor's number is a fact about you and about government records — a model guessing at one would put a false statement on a federal application.
