Every preschool teacher plans circle time and manages nap schedules. What sets a resume apart is a specific result: children who moved up a reading band, a behavior system other teachers adopted, a family engagement event attendance grew. If you do not have a number yet, the size of your classroom and the age range you led still tell a director something concrete.
A CDA, an associate degree, a bachelor’s degree and a state director credential are not interchangeable to a center that has to meet a specific staff-to-child ratio and licensing requirement. Name exactly what you hold and the issuing body, so a director can confirm in seconds that you meet the posting’s requirement before reading the rest.
Creative Curriculum, Conscious Discipline, Teaching Strategies GOLD, HighScope: these are not filler. A center running the same curriculum wants to see you already know it, and naming the assessment tool you use to track developmental milestones shows you understand documentation, not just activities.
Small centers close, seasonal programs end, and family child care arrangements shift. List the role with real detail, dates and what you actually did, the same way you would any other position. A resume that skips over a normal pattern in this field reads as more evasive than the gap itself.
One page for a new teacher or anyone under roughly seven years of classroom experience. Two pages becomes reasonable once you have moved into a director or coordinator role, hold multiple credentials, or have a program history long enough that cutting it would lose real information a hiring committee needs.
Requirements vary by state and by center, and both paths are common in this field. List whichever credential you hold exactly as it is titled, along with the issuing body and year, and note any coursework in progress if you are working toward the next level. Do not round a CDA up to a degree or leave the credential type unclear.
List it the same way you would any other role: employer name, dates, age group and what you did there. A center closing is common in early childhood and is not a reflection on you. If asked in an interview, a brief, factual answer is enough; it does not need explaining on the resume itself.
