A number here does more work than almost anything else on a bookkeeper resume: how many client accounts, how many bank and credit card accounts reconciled monthly, how many transactions a month. "Full-cycle bookkeeping" alone could mean one company or twenty clients. Say which.
QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop are different products with different workflows, and a firm hiring for one wants someone fluent in that one. Same with payroll platforms (Gusto, ADP, Paychex) and bill-pay tools (Bill.com). Naming the specific product tells a hiring manager exactly what retraining, if any, they would need to do.
Reconciling accounts is the baseline of the job. A specific error you caught before it reached a client, a discrepancy you traced back to its source, a process change that prevented a recurring mistake: these show judgment, which is what separates a bookkeeper a firm trusts with a growing client list from one who only does what is assigned.
Certified Bookkeeper (AIPB or NACPB), QuickBooks ProAdvisor, a payroll certification: list them with the issuing body and year. Because bookkeepers often work with limited direct oversight, a current certification is one of the few objective signals a hiring manager has before actually working with you.
One page for anyone under roughly seven years of experience. Two pages becomes reasonable once you are managing a team of bookkeepers, a large multi-client portfolio, or have led enough process changes that cutting the resume down would lose real information a hiring manager needs.
No. Many bookkeeping roles do not require formal certification, especially for in-house positions. A certification like the AIPB’s Certified Bookkeeper credential helps, particularly for firm or multi-client roles, but accurate, specific work history carries most of the weight.
List the ones that are relevant or that show range, retail, construction, professional services, and so on, but you do not need an exhaustive list. If you have handled industry-specific requirements, like construction job costing or restaurant tip reporting, naming that specifically is more useful than a long list of client types.
