Jobscan Review

An honest look at Jobscan's pricing and what it actually checks, and what ResumeFox does differently.

Pricing

What each one actually costs over twelve months

These are two different kinds of plan. Jobscan charges $49.95 a month, or $89.95 every 3 months, for a product built around checking and tailoring a resume against postings. ResumeFox is one plan at $79 a month after 7 free days, and that price buys the resume work plus a career professional you can write to. Read the two cards as what they are: a scanning subscription, and tools with a person included.

The full side-by-side comparison

Grouped by what actually matters: where the writing comes from, whether the file survives the software, whether the resume gets aimed at the job you want, and what it costs to keep using.

ResumeFox
TopStack Resume
(this site)
Built on real resume-writing experience
Where the writing standards come from
A scoring algorithm isn't the same as someone who has actually done this.
No. A proprietary matching algorithm built by a software company (founded 2013 by a job seeker turned engineer), not a resume-writing firm
Yes. Standards drawn from 80,000+ resumes written by hand by 100+ CPRW-certified US writers and recruiters
Rewrites the resume you already have
Scoring it and rewriting it are two different things.
Partly. The Scanner doesn't rewrite; 'AI Optimize' suggests specific edits against a posting that you accept or reject one at a time, keeping a separate copy
Yes. Upload it and the AI rebuilds it section by section, against the same standards above
ATS readability check
What actually gets checked, not just a number.
No. Runs 30+ checks but reports them as one 'Match Rate' from 1 to 100% against a single posting; the site names 75%+ as the target score
Yes. 12 named problems checked against real parsing behavior, not a score out of 100
Templates that actually parse
Templates with sidebars, photos or skill graphics
The three things that break a parse.
Yes. Its free builder's templates are single-column; the gallery explicitly avoids tables and images because 'many ATS can't handle' them
Yes. None. No sidebar, no photo, no skills chart, anywhere
Number of templates
Choice for its own sake is cheap.
Partly. Grouped by career stage and format (general, executive, management, entry-level and more) rather than one flat count
Partly. 10 designs plus a US federal layout
Targeting the job, not just building the resume
Tailoring to a specific job posting
One resume per application, without rebuilding it.
Partly. 'AI Optimize' suggests edits against a posting that you accept or reject one at a time, in about 5 minutes, and keeps your original separate
Yes. Targeted version per posting; master resume stays untouched, every change reported
Cover letter for that same posting
Written from the posting and the tailored resume together.
Yes. AI Cover Letter Generator drafts one from your resume and the posting; a Premium feature
Yes. Drafted from the posting and your targeted resume, with the reasoning behind it shown
Job search read against your resume
Matching, not a job board embed.
Partly. Job Tracker pulls personalized listings and lets you save postings from Indeed, LinkedIn and Glassdoor with a Chrome extension, each scored against your resume
Yes. Live postings from the major boards, with a fit check against your master resume; a stretch role is labeled a reach
Interview preparation
Company-specific, or a tips article.
Partly. Listed as 'AI Interview Practice' with a feedback bot on practice answers; no evidence it does live research on the specific company
Yes. Prep built from live research on the company and role, plus a browser mock interview; video never leaves your machine
LinkedIn optimization
Recruiter search terms differ from parser terms.
Yes. Scores your profile against a posting and one-click generates a new headline and summary you can copy in
Yes. Headline, About and experience rewritten from your master resume
Application tracker
One record per job, everything hanging off it.
Yes. Job Tracker is free: stages, interview details and contacts, plus a Match Rate per saved job
Yes. An application tracker with one record per job, linking the targeted resume, cover letter, prep and offer notes
Billing and support
What it renews at
The number nobody puts in headline size.
No. $49.95 every month, or $89.95 every 3 months; no annual plan found for an individual account
Partly. $79 a month after the 7 free days, with the coach included. Nothing is charged during the trial
Support
Partly. Email (support@jobscan.co); no live chat found on its site
Yes. A career coach of your own, a career professional in the US from TopStack.com, included: unlimited written messages, and $20 for a 30-minute phone call

A half-filled circle means the feature exists but with a real limitation, described in the cell.

Templates & ATS

More templates is not the same as more good templates

A large share of the designs these builders promote use two columns, a headshot slot, or skills drawn as dots and bars. Those choices are the reason a resume arrives shredded: the sidebar gets read straight across into the middle of your job history, and a skills graphic says nothing once the picture is gone.

ResumeFox ships 10 templates plus a US federal layout. Not one has a sidebar, a photo or a chart. They differ in typography and emphasis, never in whether they parse.

What each one is genuinely good and bad at

Jobscan
4.3★ / 341
Independently owned · founded 2013, Seattle

A broad, genuinely capable tool built around a scanner: a free builder, a job tracker, Auto Apply and interview practice all under one account. The Match Rate score is the center of the product, and the free tier is real (5 scans a month, a free builder, a free tracker).

Strengths
  • Free tier includes 5 scans a month, a free ATS-friendly builder and a free Job Tracker
  • 'AI Optimize' suggests line-by-line edits against a posting that you accept or reject
  • Auto Apply drafts applications from live postings sourced across 20+ ATS platforms, and waits for your approval
  • Job listings, a Chrome extension and interview practice are part of the same account
Watch out for
  • The core feature is a single 1-100 Match Rate, not a named fix list
  • $49.95 a month for a product built around scoring a resume you already have
  • Refunds only within the first 2 calendar days of a billing period, minus a 3.5% fee
  • No annual plan for an individual account
ResumeFox
4.8★ / 2.5k+
TopStack Resume · US writers, founded 2018

Built by a resume-writing firm rather than a scanning tool, and sold as one plan with a career coach included. It writes the resume in the first place, then covers the rest of the search: a person to ask, tailoring, tracking and sourcing.

Strengths
  • A career coach of your own, a career professional in the US from TopStack.com, with unlimited written messages and a $20 30-minute call whenever you want one
  • Standards drawn from 80,000+ hand-written resumes by 100+ CPRW-certified US writers and recruiters
  • Builds and rebuilds the resume itself, then covers the search: per-posting tailoring, job sourcing, interview prep, LinkedIn optimization and an application tracker in the same account
  • 6 month job offer guarantee: If you have paid for our service for 6 consecutive months, and you have not received a job offer, we'll continue to work with you for 6 additional months at no cost.
Watch out for
  • $79 a month, several times what a builder subscription costs
  • 10 templates, not dozens, deliberately, but it is fewer
  • No line-by-line accept/reject editor against a live posting the way Jobscan's AI Optimize works; ResumeFox rewrites and reports every change instead
  • Coaching is written messages; a 30-minute phone call is $20 on top

FAQ

Questions people ask before they pick one

Still stuck? Email a human: someone answers, usually within one business day.

Is Jobscan legit?

Yes. It's a real, established product, founded in 2013 by CEO James Hu and running since. It has a 4.3★ rating on Trustpilot from 341 reviews, and the scanning, builder and job-tracking features it advertises on its own site are real and function as described.

Is Jobscan worth it?

It depends what you need. If you already have a resume and want it scored against a specific posting, with a free builder and job tracker layered on, Jobscan does that. If you want the resume written in the first place and a career coach to ask about it, ResumeFox writes it from scratch or from an upload and includes a coach in its one plan, at a higher price.

How much does Jobscan cost?

$49.95 a month, or $89.95 billed every 3 months (about $29.98/month). Its own cancellation-policy page describes only those two billing cadences for an individual account; no annual plan was found. A free tier gives 5 scans a month.

Does Jobscan build resumes or just check them?

Both. Its Resume Scanner checks a resume you already have and returns a Match Rate score out of 100. It also has a free ATS-friendly resume builder with its own templates, separate from the scanner.

Is ResumeFox cheaper than Jobscan?

No. ResumeFox is $79 a month after 7 free days, against Jobscan's $49.95 a month or $89.95 every 3 months. It is also a different kind of product: it writes the resume in the first place, tailors it to each posting, sources jobs and tracks what happens, and it includes a career coach in the US you can write to as often as you like, plus the 6 month job offer guarantee.

What happens if I don't like it?

Jobscan's refund window is the first 2 calendar days of a billing period, and a 3.5% processing fee is deducted even then, reviewed case by case. ResumeFox charges nothing during its 7 free days, so cancelling inside them costs you nothing, and you can cancel anytime from your account.

What does the Match Rate score actually mean?

Jobscan's own resume-scanner page says a resume is scored 1 to 100% against a specific job posting, based on hard skills, education, job title, soft skills and other keywords, and recommends a score of 75%+ to “increase your interview chances.” It is a measure of keyword and format alignment to one posting, not a prediction that you'll get the job. ResumeFox avoids this kind of scoring on the fit side of a check entirely and names the specific gaps instead.

Does Jobscan track job applications or search for jobs?

Yes. A free Job Tracker organizes applications by stage and stores interview details, and Auto Apply drafts applications from live postings sourced across more than 20 ATS platforms, waiting for your approval before anything is submitted.

How we compared these

Pricing is read from each provider's own checkout or pricing page. Feature claims are checked against each product's live interface. Where we could not confirm something ourselves, it is not on this page.

Where numbers disagree

Entry prices in this category differ across landing pages and promotions. Where that happens we give the observed range rather than one figure, and say so.

Our disclosure

This page is published by ResumeFox, one of the products compared. We have an obvious interest in your choosing it. That is why every claim about a competitor is one you can check on their own site, and why we name the rows they win.
